Team South Eastern Homes are entering the London to Brighton Cycle ride on June 18th to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

Scott & Jason’s mother has a genetic heart condition called Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), so this charity means a lot to them.

With HCM, the muscular wall of your heart becomes thickened and the heart muscle stiff, making it harder for the heart to pump blood out of your heart and around the body.

Although she knew she had this condition at just 44 years old, their nan, Edna Reynolds, died suddenly of a heart attack caused by HCM.   At 24 their mother, Sue fell pregnant with Scott. During a routine pregnancy check-up at 4 months she too was diagnosed with HCM.

The 43 years that have followed have been filled with daily medication, regular trips to the doctors, Guys, St George’s, Middlesex and St Bart’s hospitals, 2 pacemaker operations…too much to mention!

All in all the help, attention and service she has been given over those years have been amazing. Thanks to advances in medication and the attention she has received, she has gone on to and continues to live a very happy and full life.

On June 18th we will be inspired to ride the London to Brighton by the memory of all those we have lost to heart disease so please donate whatever you can.

We are proud and humbled to be able to raise some money and give something back for all the British Heart Foundation has given to us.

Thank you from the team: Lewis Muir, Sam Smith, Jake Widdows & Scott Widdows
